We Got By é o segundo álbum de Alwyn Lopez Jarreau, o Al Jarreau, o primeiro pela Warner Bros Records. Em 1975, Jarreau estava trabalhando com o pianista Tom Canning, em Los Angeles, quando foi visto por olheiros da gravadora.

We Got By, foi aclamado pelos críticos e alavancou a fama internacional do cantor, chegando a receber um Grammy na Alemanha, fato que se repetiria com o lançamento de seu segundo álbum, Glow. Todas as músicas do disco foram compostas por Jarreau, algo que ele abandonaria nos álbuns seguintes, nos quais passou a interpretar grandes compositores do jazz, do pop e do R&B.

THIS TIME - 1980 - AL JARREAU

This Time é o quarto álbum de estúdio de Al Jarreau , lançado em 1980 pela Warner Bros Records. O lançamento marcou uma mudança no som de Jarreau para um estilo mais R&B. Como resultado, o álbum alcançou mais sucesso do que seus trabalhos anteriores, chegando ao topo das paradas de jazz. Ele também alcançou a posição número 6 nas paradas de R&B e 27 na Billboard 200.

"Never Givin' Up" recebeu uma indicação para o Grammy Award de Melhor Performance Vocal R&B, em 1981, a primeira nomeação de Jarreau nesse estilo. "Distracted" e "Gimme What You Got" também foram grandes sucessos nas paradas americanas.

A curiosidade do disco é "Spain (I Can Recall)", composição de Chick Corea, com letra de Jarreau e Artie Maren, que mostra o cantor de jazz em uma de suas melhores performances em um impressionante improviso.

Oscar Castro-Neves, falecido em setembro de 2013, atua como guitarrista em This Time.
