YEAR OF THE CAT - 1976 - AL STEWART

Year of the Cat é o sétimo álbum de estúdio do escocês Al Stewart, lançado em 1976, e é considerado sua obra-prima. As vendas foram catapultadas pelo single "Year of the Cat", canção sobre uma misteriosa mulher, parceria com Peter Wood, que rendeu um disco de platina. O outro single do álbum foi "On the Border". 

O álbum foi gravado nos estúdios de Abbey Road, em Londres, e produzido por Alan Parsons, que dois anos antes produzira The Dark Side of the Moon, do Pink Floyd. Com influência do filme Casablanca (que Stewart tinha revisto dias antes), a música "Year of the Cat", composta a partir de um riff de piano de Peter Wood,  cita os atores Humphrey Bogart e Peter Lorre. A letra conta a história de um turista que, num mercado de um país cujos habitantes voltam no tempo, encontra uma mulher misteriosa vestida de seda e cheirando a patchuli. Ela o toma pela mão e ambos partem para uma aventura de amor. Na manhã seguinte, o turista se vê sozinho, perde seu ônibus e seu tíquete, ficando, não se sabe até quando, no Ano do Gato.
