DIA DO PROFESSOR

TO SIR WITH LOVE* (1967) LULU

"Ao Mestre com Carinho", de James Clavell, é desses filmes despretensiosos que acabaram por se tornar cult. Filmado na Londres dos anos 60, traz a história de um professor que se dá por missão domesticar uma turma de adolescentes rebeldes em uma escola de subúrbio.

Já "To Sir with Love" (título original do filme) é interpretada por Lulu, que além de ser a principal voz da trilha sonora é também atriz e uma das personagens, aluna do professor Mark Thackeray, imortalizado por Sidney Poitier.

A canadense Sarah McLachlan é compositora, cantora e pianista. Ficou conhecida com a música "Angel", parte da trilha sonora do filme "Cidade dos Anjos" (1997), do americano Brad Silberling. É sobre um anjo que se apaixona por uma mulher, melodrama adaptado do "Asas do Desejo" (1987), do alemão Wim Wenders.

Já "Sweet Surrender", do mesmo disco que "Angel", é dessas músicas lado B que superam com folga seu lado A.

The Dark Side of the Moon

Cinquenta anos de Beatles merece um clássico fora de hora. Sem dúvida. Quarenta anos do “The Dark Side of the Moon” também.
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older.”
O sol é o mesmo, nós estamos mais velhos. Dark side tem 40 anos e cada vez que o escutamos parece melhor. Pelas mídias, “Blue-Ray” e outras tantas, e pela quantidade mesmo. Sempre tem alguma novidade nele.
Este disco teve um início quase que despretensioso (se é que isto é possível em alguma coisa que inclua Roger Waters). Querendo se descolar do rótulo de banda psicodélica, os integrantes do Pink Floyd se reuniram na cozinha do baterista Nick Mason e fizeram uma lista das coisas que mais os incomodava. Tempo, dinheiro e loucura foram os temas colocados em um conceito mais rock do que anterior Obscured By Clouds - trilha da banda para um filme francês, de Barbet Schroeder -, e apresentadas com o nome de Eclipse (A Place of Assorted Lunatics) em uma turnê.
Money foi um dos raros hits do Pink Floyd, e o álbum vendeu mais de um milhão de discos somente nos Estados Unidos. É desta música os versos que o jovem Pink têm surrupiado da mão para ridicularizá-lo no filme The Wall.
É claro que um disco e uma banda com tanta mística não podia ficar de fora de um grande folclore. Há que jure que o disco seria uma trilha sonora para o filme O Mágico de Oz, de 1935. Com alguma - ou muita - boa vontade, é possível perceber alguma sincronicidade entre os dois.
Dark Side faz parte da série Álbuns Clássicos do Rock, e ali estão detalhes de gravações e composições, como Richard Wright falando da influência de Miles Davis em "Breathe" (ou pelo menos da descoberta de um acorde).
Muita coisa do disco é inspirada em Syd Barret. O álbum foi gravado no Abbey Road Studio e teve Alan Parsons como engenheiro de som. "The Great Gig in the Sky" tem vocais de Clare Torry. É a primeira participação de Dick Parry em álbuns do Pink Floyd. Dark Side é responsável por todo o segundo disco/DVD de “Pulse”, de 1995.
Em 2003, ao ser questionado sobre Dark Side, Roger Waters responde:
“A gente ainda tinha um objetivo comum, que era ficar rico e famoso.”
