Numa sexta-feira, 15 de agosto de 1969, há 47 anos, "Freedom" abria o Festival de Woodstock na voz de Richie Havens, bem mostrando a que veio o grande evento: fazer história. Foi parte do grito riponga "paz, amor e liberdade". E música também, muita música. Gods bless Richie e a tudo que se seguiu!

Em 1969, Richie Havens abriu o festival de Woodstock com sua clássica "Freedom". Pois, no mesmo ritmo, ei-lo em "Here comes the Sun", de seu disco "Alarm Clock". Por sinal, esta é a segunda música dos Beatles que mais teve covers na história.

O músico Richie Havens, que cantou para um enorme público no festival Woodstock, morreu aos 72 anos nesta segunda-feira (22). A família divulgou um comunicado confirmando a morte de Havens, que foi causada por um ataque do coração.

Richie Havens, cantor e guitarrista de folk, se apresentou no ano de 1969 no Woodstock. Ele voltou ao mesmo local em 2009 durante o aniversário de 40 anos do evento.

Nascido no Brooklyn, ele era conhecido pela maneira na qual tocava violão e por sua interpretação de canções alheias. 

Em 2009, Havens disse em uma entrevista a agência de notícia Associated Press, sobre o Woodstock: "Tudo na minha vida, e na de muitos outros, está ligada ao festival".

Em sua trajetória, Havens lançou vários discos, como "Mixed bag" (1967), "Something else again" (1968), "Richard P. Havens, 1983" (1969)  e "Stonehenge" (1970). Seu último trabalho é "Nobody left to crown", de 2008.
