SWEET BABY JAMES - 1970 - JAMES TAYLOR

Sweet Baby James é o segundo álbum do cantor e compositor James Taylor e seu primeiro pela Warner Bros Records. Lançado em fevereiro de 1970, ele mostrou a direção que levaria a sua carreira. 

Com vocais serenos, naturais, James Taylor introduziu o que foi chamado nos anos 1970 de sweet beat folk, um estilo original, uma sonoridade acústica, com pitadas de country e blues-gospel, que fez muito sucesso.

Taylor é um fingerpicker (ele dedilha o violão ao invés de usar palheta), mas com um violão de cordas de aço, em vez de nylon; e isto faz o seu som, com técnica clássica, de natureza popular. Seu vocal suave e doce levou a sua produção a chamar o disco de "doce bebê James" (em português), o que o caracterizou no seu estilo original.

O álbum contou com um dos primeiros sucessos de Taylor simples: "Fire and Rain", que chegou a No. 3 na Billboard Hot 100. O álbum conseguiu chegar também No. 3 nas paradas da Billboard. Sweet Baby James foi uma das principais forças do movimento ascendente folk. O álbum foi indicado para um Grammy de Álbum do Ano, em 1971 e foi listado na posição 103 das 500 Melhores Álbuns da Rolling Stone de todos os tempos.
