Lançado em 1973, The Captain and Me é o terceiro álbum da banda californiana The Doobie Brothers. Vendeu dois milhões de cópias só nos EUA, o que rendeu ao grupo dois discos de platina.

Destaque para China Grove, Withou You, Dark Eyed Cajun Woman, South City Midnight Lady e Long Train Runnin', o single que puxou o disco - e talvez o maior sucesso da banda, ao lado de Listen to the Music (1972) e What a Fool Believes (1978).

Jeff 'Skunk' Baxter, ex-integrante do Steely Dan, toca steel guitar em South City Midnaight Lady. No ano seguinte, ele passaria a fazer parte do Doobie Brothers. Without You, música que abre o lado dois, é, segundo Tom Johnston, uma espécie de tributo ao The Who. A música conta com dois bateristas, uma formação que se tornaria característica do grupo.
