Na América do século XVI viveu Hiawatha, líder indígena da confederação dos iroqueses, famoso por sua sabedoria e tolerância em prol da união das tribos confederadas. Pudemos conhecê-lo no pequeno Havita*, de Walt Disney. 

Na voz lírica de Maddy Prior, vocalista da banda inglesa Steeleye Span, "Incantations", de Mike Oldfield, traz uma palhinha d'A Canção de Hiawatha (1855), longo poema épico do poeta americano Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.
