Em meados de 1967, ele mudou seu nome artístico para Roger. Antes, era Jim McGuinn. Em 1964, com David Crosby e Gene Clark, fundou a inesquecível The Byrds, banda americana de folk-rock com boa dose de psicodelismo sessentista. "Eight Miles High" é mais um de seus tantos clássicos.
